Muscat, Oman
Oman’s geographical location is quite unusual. Besides its main part that occupies the southeast corner of the Arabian Peninsula, it also has two exclaves. The larger one, Musandam Exclave, lies on the
Musandam Peninsula. It is separated from the rest of Oman by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The other smaller exclave is within the territory of the UAE which makes it an enclave as well as an exclave. Inside this Omani enclave, there is a tiny enclave of the UAE, one of the world geographical oddities.
On Day 5 of our cruise, we woke up in Khasab, the local capital of the Musandam Governorate. Here, we booked an excursion to go to the largest fjord in Oman, Khor Ash Sham, on a traditional dhow.
A dhow cruise took 4 hours. We were offered snacks and drinks on board, and there was a stop past Telegraph Island where we could go for a 20-minute swim. My swimming was cut short when I got stung by a jellyfish and had to return to the boat. It was nothing serious. I applied ice cubes from the chest with cold drinks to relieve the burning. The swelling and redness were gone by next day.
